Who is Barbara Stone?

Barbara is the longest serving member for Springwood, having been elected to this marginal seat in 2001 and at the three subsequent State elections (2004, 2006 and 2009).

Barbara believes that her most significant achievement during her time in office so far has been her work in public transport improvements for this Logan electorate, which includes the entire suburbs of Springwood, Rochedale South, Daisy Hill and Shailer Park, and parts of Priestdale, Cornubia and Loganholme. Staying in touch with her constituents is one of Barbara’s main priorities. She regularly conducts mobile offices all over her electorate.

Barbara has a long association with the area and has lived and worked in the Springwood/Logan region since 1988. She is very involved in the local community and is a strong supporter of local sporting and community groups. She is the patron of the Amputees and Families Support Group Queensland Inc., Lead On Logan, Southern Cross Voices and the Logan City Brass Band.
Within Parliament Barbara has served on many committees.

How else does Barbara represent you?

Currently she is Chair of the Law, Justice and Safety Committee which is holding an inquiry into a new Local Government Electoral Act: Review of the local government electoral system (excluding BCC).
Previously Barbara was a member of the Palm Island Select Committee and she served as Caucus Chair for the 52nd Queensland Parliament.

Before Parliament

Barbara used to work for Australia Post, starting out as a mail sorter and working her way up to managerial roles. Her favourite memory from those days was working at the Australia Post pavilion at Expo 88. In 1999 Barbara got a job as the electorate officer for Hon Judy Spence MP, who was at that time the State Member for Mt Gravatt.

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) and an Associate Diploma in Business Management. Her interests include most sports (particularly cricket, motor racing and football), travel, politics and swimming.
